Velbert-Langenhorst

The first stage of the Bergischer Weg starts at the Baldeney hiking parking lot and first leads through the beautiful beech forest of the Baldeney Forest past the Isenburg castle ruins to the shores of Lake Baldeney.

As a lakeside path, it now runs past the Carl Funke colliery to the "Heisinger Bogen bird sanctuary" before a former railroad bridge leads to the other side of the lake in the Kupferdreh district and to the Hardenbergufer. The route now follows the Moosbach stream into the Hespertal valley and through the Langenhorster forest on forest paths, some of which are narrow. Apart from two slightly longer climbs at the end, the stage is rated as easy. However, please remember to wear sturdy shoes.

A52 to exit Essen-Haarzopf, then L132 direction Bredeney, L441 direction Stadtwald

Baldeney hiking parking lot (at the "Wirtshaus zur heimlichen Liebe") 

Directions by public transportation:
DB Bahn: take the S6 to Essen-Stadtwald;
Bus: take bus 145 to the "Drosselanger" stop

Return to the starting point:
from bus stop "Hasenpfad" with bus OV 4 to ZOB Velbert, then with bus 169 to Essen-Werden and then with S6 to Stadtwald;
or from the "Parkstraße" stop, take bus 169 to S Essen-Werden, then the S6 to Stadtwald (www.rheinbahn.de)
