Stage 3 from Wülfrath to Gräfrath

The Bergisch Trail: Stage 3

Gentle, curving horizons and wonderful trails along the Düssel river define the stages where many traces of limestone quarrying are to be discovered. Some of the older quarries have long been reclaimed by nature and await with changing attractions every season. The stage through tranquil Gräfrath with its picturesque alleyways and slated houses certainly won’t leave you bored.

Description

  • Length:  24,9km
  • Duration: approx. 6-7 hours 
  • Start point of the stage: Wülfrath, Düssel; access route: approx. 1,4 km to Wülfrath-Aprath train station or S 28 to Hahnenfurth/Düssel, access route from/to S-Bahn station approx. 1 km
  • End point of the stage: Solingen-Gräfrath, Gräfrather Markt 
  • Arrival by car: A3 to exit Mettmann, via B7 to Wuppertal-Dornap, L422 to Wülfrath-Düssel (or L74 to Wülfrath-Aprath), Car park: in Düssel (or at the train station Aprath) 
  • Arrival by public transport: with S9 to Wülfrath-Aprath (access route: 1,4 km), Bus: with bus 641 to bus stop "Wülfrath Düssel"

  • Options for returning to the starting point: from bus stop "Deutsches Klingenmuseum" with bus 683 to "Wuppertal-Vohwinkel Schwebebahn", then with bus 641 to "Wülfrath Düssel" (www.rheinbahn.de) 
  • Other access options: Mettmann-Stadtwald train station (S28, 742, 745, 746, 749, O10, O11, O13, SB68), access route: 4,2 km; Wuppertal-Vohwinkel train station (S8, S9, S68, 609, 621, 631, 683, 745, 784), access route: 2,8 km; Haan-Gruiten train station (S8, S68, Bus 641, 742, O1), situated directly on the Bergischer Weg 
  • Connection to other long-distance hiking trails: This stage of the trail runs parallel to the Neaderland STEIG until just short of Gräfrath. 
  • Connection with circular hiking trails: In the vicinity of Haan-Gruiten, the Entdeckerschleife Evolutionspfad (Evolution Trail Discovery Loop) joins the Bergischer Weg.
