:metabolon - environmental learning, research and recreation area

Anyone who zooms down the longest double slide in Germany (110 metres, from 8 years) on a mat from the hill at the :metabolon site will hardly believe that it is on a former landfill site. Among other things, a mountain bike park, cross golf course and segway track have been added to the areal that has been converted into an environmental learning, research and recreation area. You can also hike at the former landfill site. Compost worm “Leppel” explains the environment to children along the energy learning trail. Children also have great fun on a long, winding slide (from 3 years).

The high point for visitors is the 360 degree view from the heaped up landfill hill, which visitors can reach by climbing 360 steps. Small trampolines at the summit also invite physical activity.

At the foot of the hill, there is an exhibition on the “House of the Future”, focusing on energy efficiency and energy-saving building renovations.

A bistro offers cold and hot dishes and is a good starting or finishing point for a visit to :metabolon. In dry weather, the covered sun terrace and adjoining playground are open.

Every Friday, public tours are on offer and group tours can also be booked at other times.

Some of the recreation activities can only be booked at the weekend (Saturday/Sunday), because these clash with the normal disposal operations during the week. The viewing platform and the bistro are open every day during opening hours.
At the Entsorgungszentrum Leppe/:metabolon main entrance in Lindlar, there is a charging column for electric vehicles.
