Heimatmuseum Bergneustadt (Bergneustadt Local Museum)

Short facts

  • Bergneustadt

Das im Jahr 1984 eröffnete Heimatmuseum befindet sich in einem Fachwerkhaus.

In 1984 the Heimatmuseum opened in a timber-framed house dating from the second half of the 19th century, offering an exciting journey through time and the history of Bergneustadt and the Bergisches Land. It vividly demonstrated the lives of days gone by in the town that was ravaged by several disastrous fires.

The exhibitions address the history and jurisdiction of Bergneustadt, the workplaces of craftspeople (carpenters, woodturners, smiths, cobblers), Oberbergisch domestic culture of the 19th and 20th centuries and domestic workplaces of the 19th century as well as having a geological department.

Since 1991, constantly changing exhibitions have taken place in an extension to the building.

Over 100 historical to contemporary fire service helmets from over 50 different countries are currently on display in the tower gallery. The oldest exhibit dates from 1780.

Museum education offerings, tours, including through the historical old town, as well as numerous special exhibitions and cultural events complete the extensive programme and make the museum a lively centre point in Bergneustadt.

Baking together at the historical bakery
Our daily bread - a symbol of life since ancient times
Bergneustadt has many bakeries offering a wide range of high-quality breads and cakes. And more and more people are baking their own bread again. So why not do it together?
Heimatmuseum Bergneustadt offers any one who is interested the opportunity to participate in a regular “bake day” with others using the bakery at the Heimatmuseum.
