Heimatmuseum Bergneustadt (Bergneustadt Local Museum)

Short facts

  • Bergneustadt

The local history museum, which opened in 1984, is located in a half-timbered house.

It dates back to the second half of the 19th century and offers an exciting journey through time into the history of Bergneustadt and the Bergisches Land region. It vividly depicts life in days long past in the town, which was ravaged by devastating fires on several occasions.
The exhibitions deal with Bergneustadt's history and jurisdiction, the workplaces of craftsmen (carpenters, wood turners, bakers, blacksmiths, shoemakers), 19th and 20th century Oberberg home decor and domestic workplaces from the 19th century, and there is also a geological section.
Since 1991, constantly changing exhibitions have been held in an extension.
Currently, more than 100 historical to modern firefighter helmets from over 50 different nations are on display in the tower gallery. The oldest exhibit dates back to 1780.
Educational museum offers, guided tours, also through the historic old town, as well as numerous special exhibitions and cultural events round off the extensive program and make the museum a lively focal point in Bergneustadt.

You can get married around the clock, 365 days a year, in the museum's beautiful wedding room. Further information can be found here.

Baking together in the historic bakery
Our daily bread - a symbol of life since time immemorial
Bergneustadt has numerous bakeries that offer a good and extensive range of bread and cakes. And yet more and more people are getting back into baking their own bread. Why not do this together with others?
The Bergneustadt Local History Museum offers all those interested the opportunity to use the bakery at the local history museum together with others on a regular "baking day". If you would like to take part, please contact the Bergneustadt local history museum on +49 2261 / 43184.

Spinning room
Every third Wednesday of the month from 16:00, anyone interested in spinning with a hand spindle or spinning wheel can meet up. You can spin, ask and/or answer questions, solve problems and learn new things!
We want to show that 'hand spinning' can be an interesting and very relaxing hobby. Please bring a hand spindle or spinning wheel if you have one. Ms. Heliane Keller, initiator of "Die Spinnstube", will bring hand spindles and raw wool to try out at the first meeting.
The meeting is free of charge and anyone interested is very welcome.
If you are interested, please register in advance: Heimatmuseum Bergneustadt, Tel.: 02261 / 43184 - Mail: info@heimatmuseum-bergneustadt.de
