Wo schon die Römer nach Erz gegraben haben - 2.000 Jahre Bergbau in Rösrath.
Information boards along the way provide interesting facts about the history and technology of ore mining as well as the numerous legends surrounding Lüderich mountain. First, the mining trail leads to restored factory halls and pretty company villas of a former hammer mill, where metal from Lüderich was also processed. The trail then leads to the former mouth of the Franziska adit in the Rothenbach valley and up to the preserved winding tower of the Franziska shaft via spoil heaps that are still only sparsely overgrown today.
Along the 12.2-kilometre "Mining Trail", the hiker accompanies a miner on an underground shift by means of a memoir, learns interesting facts about the religiousness of the miners and about the circumstances that led archaeologists to discover traces of Roman mining at the end of the 1990s. You can also discover how a golf course was created from a mine site and how a former sewage pond was transformed into a modern leisure pool.
At Bleifeld, the trail also follows a section of the "Bergischer Weg" (262 km from Essen to Königswinter).
Shortcut: At Bleifeld, you can take a shortcut by skipping the loop of the path in the form of an "8" to the former main shaft of the Lüderich mine and returning straight away. This shortens the route to 9 km.
Experience on the mining trail: Since the beginning of 2023, there has been a puzzle tour that starts in Hoffnungsthal and runs along the mining trail. During the hike, there are various puzzles to solve in order to break the curse surrounding the enchanted miner's lamp. You can find more information here.
The trail has a total of 10 information boards and 1 audio station. We would like to thank Werner Löffelsender, who looks after the trail as a volunteer trail patron.
